Fishing Reports

The Store Report June 20-21 June

Good morning, I have included two days of reports in one as a family funeral tomorrow means that I will be away for a day. With the weather conditions having not changed much over the past day or so, fishing patterns have remained pretty much the same. We have a little more cloud cover forecast for the next day, which often helps the rivers with a little added cover. The lake still remains very low even after the rainfall that fell over the weekend, which made very little difference at all. The electricity companies are busy making use of every drop that is available at present. This time last year we had quite a bit more water which certainly helps push fish up the streams with the volume allowing fish ease of access. It’s interesting to note the number of browns that have recently been taken in the Tongariro and also the Tauranga Taupo. You might think it’s a bit late but perhaps the conditions this winter have allowed the fish to be in the rivers longer. The water volumes are very low and I think the fish are finding it a little more difficult to penetrate their normal spawning streams. We have seen some great examples, all in good condition. One hesitates a guess as to the numbers that are holding in the Hydro Pool! With the lower river conditions allowing anglers the chance to fish with a little more ease to these fish. The smaller streams have now cleared away completely after the weekend rainfall. A number of anglers that have spent the past few days boat fishing the drop offs have been well rewarded for their patience. The extra volume that was present earlier in the week gave good cover for the fish as they slowly pulsed in. With the fact that fish were still spawning in late December last year, we have a long way to go yet! The Hatepe has continued to provide some good fishing after the pressure of the weekend. As there is not a lot of water to fish, the popular spots have been well fished. The debris that has settled in the river is making life difficult for the average angler. Its a matter of lock onto a spot and hold your fish. The mouth is certainly worth a cast as all the smaller stream mouths have fished well over the past few nights. A lumo Green Doll pattern should do the job. Enjoy you day, it’s probably a warmer spot than I have. Cheers The Store Team 07 3868953 Peter and Stella
