Winter Fishing Pelorus/Kenepuru Sounds
Winter is providing perfect weather for fishing - just remember to wrap up warm.
Scallop season is underway and we couldn't resist a dredge in Fairy Bay recently. We were a bit disappointed really with good quantities, but scallops on the whole were rather underdeveloped. Another few weeks should help. Have had reports of good sized scallops further out at Ketu.
Snapper are being caught in up to 40m in Pelorus - fish good size and in excellent condition. The only problem is the number of dogfish only too keen to take the bait along with tackle. If you're prepared to lose a bit of tackle then the snapper eventually hook on. Good sized kahawai are numerous and good sport.
Last week we sighted a group of dolphins off Nikau having a lot of fun with the seabirds. Certainly kept us entertained while waiting for bites.
