Fishing Reports
Wellington - It's Raining!
Finally we've received the long awaited rain, ending the drought in this region. The Hutt is still producing fish surprisingly!
A trip into a couple of the tributiries before seasons end indicated very few fish have run yet. Possibly why the main river is holding so many fish. Fish are falling to small size GB Pheasent Tails in the very fast heads.
Tararua's rivers are now also closed. I cannot for the life of me understand why Fish & Game have placed a closed season on the large rivers within the ranges, as they receive little or no pressure through the winter anyway. It's a brave man or woman to stick it out in the Tararua's through winter.
Best bet is the Ruamahunga, as it's still fishing really well. A client from the States landed 10 fish recently up to 4lb. Be prepared to do plenty of walking though. Those bloody jet boaters will ruin the fishing for hours, so if you hear one coming you may as well wind in, give them the fingers and walk back to your car!
Limited water is open now but a nice time of the year to fish anyway. Tight Lines.
