Fishing Reports

 

Great fishing locally! The Hutt is firing around the middle reaches with fish up to 5lbs! falling to the nymph! Most are being caught mid-stream in the well aerated fastish water. Many anglers are reporting catching up to 6 fish in a session - something I haven't heard of from the Hutt in several years. The Ruamahunga is so full of fish it's not funny. I landed 30 plus a few weeks ago and more recently between 3 of us we nailed 33. Not bad going at all. An American client I recently took out on the Ruamahunga hooked 12 and landed 3 - not bad for his first ever fly fishing foray! Most fish are around 1lb and up to 4lbs with a 75% rainbow 15% brown mix. The Tararaua's rivers are OK but still recovering from last years big floods. The Waingawa will take years to fully recover. Haven't heard much from the Wainui and the Waikanae is a right off due to record low water levels.
