Marlin Fever Hits the Far North

Over the past 5 weeks the weather continued to bombard the Far North from Whangarei to North Cape. These low pressure systems kept dropping down from the tropics while the rest of the country has been bathed in sunshine. As usual, when the weather is lousy the fishing is hard going, so marlin from time to time were also sporadic. Eventually the weather cleared giving the anglers the chance to check out more exotic areas. The good news is that it all appears to be suddenly happening. Reports from the weekend have come in thick and fast. From north of Cape KariKari/Garden Patch area/North Cape and The Three Kings Islands. Boats are experiencing multiple hook-ups and captures from 3-6 marlin per boat are being reported. Also today, blue marlin captures were celebrated at the Poor Knights and a number of marlin have been seen off the Cavaili Trench. I consider that from now to mid May the game fishing is going to be great. Russell & Heather Hayward Pacific Promotions NZ P.O.
