December has produced some good fishing here in Vanuatu. We have had the return of the northerly to westerly winds again which were out of character for this region however this is now the second year we are experiencing them and they make for some great calm water fishing.
Similar to the last few months it has been easier to catch a marlin than a wahoo unless you headed to the sea mounts at Erromango or maybe north to Monument Rock. Erromango has been producing good catches of yellowfin, however nothing over 20kg.
The last week of December things have really picked up fishing out of Port Vila with a huge influx of bait. Most boats are seeing a marlin a day a mahi-mahi or two and lots of small tuna and a few wahoo.
Shogun and Wild Blue have been flat our throughout xmas 2011 and new year. We start our first live-away trips in February and at the time of writing have 15 week long trips booked for 2012. If you are thinking of coming for a trip get in touch as we are filling the diary quickly.
If you would like to see some of the fishing action from a couple of our trips go to our video channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/FishingVanuatu?feature=guide
January is shaping up well with the amount of bait about and the further deployment of additional F.A.D’s. The water temp hasn’t increased too much either which it can do this time of the year so why don’t you take advantage of the great conditions and come on up to Vanuatu and have a fish.
