Here's the early summer fishing report from RnR.
Some nice snapper and kings have been caught at the Mokes lately using both live baits and a mixed bag of pilly, squid, whole jack mackerel and/or mullet.
Darryl at the Mangawhai Tackle shop offers a great service with the bait, delivering your order to the boat on the morning of departure.
Water temps are rising now with summer almost upon us at last and Wayne has recorded 18 to 18.5C out the Mokes on his last few trips.
The Barracuda are still a nuisance at times, but should be gone soon with the water temps rising.
Two huge Blue Sharks entertained the passengers the other day by 'tasting' the propellers on RnR. They also jumped on the lines and proceeded to wrap the fishing anchor warp and the ensuing battle left the warp with only two strands not cut right through. Wayne put his maritime skills to good use and spliced it back together.
Check the website for new photos and the calendar is updated now.
RnR Will be up at Houhora and Parengarenga over Xmas/new year. We are having a change from our usual Xmas Gt Barrier trip, mostly due to our adult children deciding to go north this year, but will be available for charter over the Xmas new year, from Houhora.
Wayne can show you some great fishing in more northern waters too, give us a call.
The bad stuff.....
Spanish Mackerel have been scooped up by the millions in close to Te Arai over Labour weekend by the Purse Seiners (with spotter plane). There were huge schools there on the Sunday and on the Monday we struggled to find just one school. They were all roed up, so never got to drop their eggs, Naturally, fewer will survive the mouths of the fish waiting to enjoy the seasons bounty. How can this commercial raping be good for our marine ecosystem? We wonder why our successive Governments allow our fish to be caught to feed the world....
Cheers Stef and Wayne
