Fishing Reports

Wellington fishing report - snapper, puka and kingis are back

A 20lb+ snaper was caught off petone wharf recently. I saw the photo and it could have been 30lb if it was in good condition. Looks like the resident fish had been off the feed for a month or two in the cold water. The west coast is really starting to fire good numbers of snapper with a few in the harbour too. Boaties and shore fishos catching a few good ones in Evans bay and out around point Gordon and Falcons shoal.

The trench is really firing now with bluenose, hoki, bass and puka all in good numbers. The 100mtr marks are also going really well on large tarakihi and hapuku. There as a few kingis around too ( we caught a 40lber last w/end)

We lost a rod and reel over the side the other day only to snag it back again with another rod and believe it or not there was a 15lb puka attached to the end of it!

Surfcasters have been catching snapper off Greta point, kahawai at breaker bay and behind the airport and gurnard off Miramar and Greta. Some good moki and spotty sharks are present in Palliser bay and the usual south coast haunts.

In the outer Marlborough Sounds the puka have been hungry, as have the large cod and teris. Gurnard fishing continues to fire inside the Sounds on the sand
