The hapuku are back at the Trench. We've had a few nice bags of bluenose too with bass and hoki mixed in. The tarakihi fishing has been superb with some of the best fishing I have ever seen. They are abundant in the 80 - 100mtr mark from 5 mile through to Turakerei. We were lucky enough to land a 30lb kingfish in 90mtrs off baring head on Saturday the 15th of Oct. The next day we lost an estimated 50lber right at the boat. We've had two trumpeter and a John Dory at 5 mile. Just yeserday we had a couple of dozen terakihi at 5 mile with some good cod too the after two drops at the trench we had some god bluenose a puke and some hoki in the bin.
Out west there have been a few snapper caught at Pukerua Bay (10 - 50mtr), a splattering of puka in the 150 - 200 mark and good teris down Makara way down to Ohau. I heard the puka have been better further south and over in the outer sounds so far. After the big northerlies at present be ready to get into the snapper and kingis - its perfect time for the warm water to turn up.
We had opver 100 kids come through our fishing day at Queens wharf sunday 31 oct. they caught over 100 spotties, a dozen kahawai and many anglers caught their 1st fish. it was part of the wgtn city council outdoors festival. A big stingray cruised around every now and then to add to the excitment. Thanks to Al Chambers for helping me out.
