August fishing report

The fishing lately has ranged from great with limit catches of good size snapper and the odd kingfish to very quiet days with a lot of moves required. Often the sounder will be full of snapper sign but very soft and very few bites.

Most of our trips now are long distance beyond the closer islands and often to Corromandel or Great Barrier.

The Channels:

Not targeting these at all. Generally very lack lustre fishing reported.

Noises / Aha’s/ David rocks:

Has been the best of the closer spots aside from Kauwau. Can be sporadic but there’s a lot of baitfish there and workups whilst short are common.

Aha’s and David rocks are our pick here.

East cost bays / Tiri / Shearers:

East coast bays saw some absolutely massive workups 2.5 weeks ago but has gone a quiet since. Some nice snapper up to 10lb came out of here with this unseasonal activity. It’s now generally very tough fishing.

Tiri has had it’s moments but shearer is the better option.

Middle ground / Anchorite

A lot of bait, whales and dolphins about. Short lived workups. Anchorite has not fired for us and we are generally finding better fishing midway between Tiri and Anchorite.

Great Barrier / Corromandel

Both area providing good fishing for both large snapper and kingfish.

Fathers day special. Getting a voucher is very easy and we will email it to you immediately. Just quote fishing.net.nz and get 50% off a 9 hour charter with bait so that’s just $97.
