Fishing Reports

More Marlin Than Wahoo

Generally the weather in Vanuatu has been amazing with very flat seas and a light north westerly blowing.  The fishing has been interesting and testing.

On numerous days it has been easier to catch a marlin than a wahoo. Marlin seem to have been concentrated in the Devils Reef area through to Tuki-Tuk F.A.D  area. A lot of the operators have been getting up to 6 or 7 bites a day in this area making for exciting fishing even on a 4 hour charter out of Port Vila.

As I mentioned wahoo have been a little harder to find but in saying that a 34kg specimen was caught off Nguna Island.  Nguna Island has been very good for dogtooth fishing as well with the best being 45kg being caught on a skip bait.

Mahi-mahi have been very scarce as with yellow fin over 10Kg. For those going to the effort of jigging around the F.A.D’s there have been yellow fin being caught at around the 25m mark. Still nothing of any size but great fun on light tackle.

We are expecting everything to get back to normal  and a larger variety of species of fish appearing in the coming weeks with the S/E wind becoming more consistent which is our prevailing wind direction.

There has also been a large increase in flying fish in the region so I don’t think it will be too long before we get the mahi-mahi back in force.
