May Fishing Report from Wave Dancer and Paul Senior

Yep it’s on: the work ups are now in full swing. We have witnessed some massive work ups over the past few weeks and yes, there are heaps of snapper below them. When we find one of these intense natural events the fishing is nothing short of spectacular. The Hauraki Gulf is on fire, on some days it seems if the whole ocean is alive. It’s a fantastic time of the year to go fishing if you can get out to the middle Hauraki Gulf where the action is.

Weather is our only limiting factor and rest assured we will not take you out there in rough weather…if the conditions are not right we will not go. If your trip is postponed due to the weather we will find you another suitable day to go or if that does not work for you we will happily refund your money.
On the days when the weather is good it’s hard to tell that it is actually winter. Being out on those clear, crisp winter days when it’s chilly in the morning and warm when the sun out comes certainly pumps a lot of feel good through the veins.

For those of you who attended the recent Hutchwilco Boatshow, thanks for coming along. We had our Wave Dancer promo girls onsite which was a lot of fun. For a few of you who have just joined our mailing list, hello and welcome to the Wave Dancer club. We have some exciting events coming up and now you have a place in the crew we will keep you updated on Wave Dancer happenings.
We have ordered another boat to join the fleet, which will be exactly the same as the original Wave Dancer and is due to be launched end of August. We can’t wait to have two identical boats running out each day. I am sure there will be a bit of banter on the dock between the crews before we leave each morning. This also means we have two boats out there looking for fish which will double our chances of finding them.

We are in the early stages of putting together a Soft Bait fishing league. The contest will run over a whole season. Having two identical boats means we can have a boat versus boat contest,...it will be match fishing at its finest. As I say still in the early stages of putting this together. If anyone has any ideas how they would like to see this work we would like to hear from you via email to John@bright-ideas.co.nz. I like the concept as it will be a contest of an angler’s skill in a match fishing style. If this is something that interests you start getting a team together.

Another addition to the team is our new booking co-coordinator, Laetitia Smith. She will be the friendly voice at the end of the phone when you call to make a booking.

We will send you out a separate email, however we will be holding an evening on Thursday 30th June at the Auckland Seafood School. We will take you on a journey from Sea to Plate in a great practical class combined with succulent seafood. In conjunction with the Auckland Seafood School, begin the class by watching a demonstration on how to sharpen your knives, then watch a demonstration on how to handle your catch as well as fillet 3 different types of fish you are likely to find in the Hauraki Gulf. You will also learn to clean and prep a whole squid . Our chef will then demonstrate 2 tantalizing seafood dishes, then it’s through to the hands-on classroom to repeat those same recipes, finishing off by sitting down to dine on your own creations with a glass of wine. All participants will go in the draw to WIN a day out on ‘Wave Dancer”. Fishing experts Mark Kitteridge and Paul Senior will be in attendance on the night to give a talk and answer any questions you have about fishing.

As we were saying, it’s hot work up action happening right now. Its action packed high speed work up hunting using a fast boat and the best tackle and techniques we can find. Don’t be put off by winter…..it can be better than summer. Give us a call on 021 564 669 or email info@wavedancer.co.nz to make an enquiry or booking.

Till next time Tight Lines

Paul and John
