Fishing Reports

I'm sure most of us are noticing the chilly mornings....and the great news is that the snapper are feeling it too. It's time for the fish to feed up and pack on the beef for the upcoming winter. There's nothing like a blast of cold weather to spark the snapper into life. We have now moved back out into the deeper waters of the Hauraki Gulf to target big snapper, and yes, most days we are catching impressive fish.

One of Wave Dancer's captains, Terry Vernon, has caught the best one this month which was just shy of the magic 20lb mark......well done Terry. It was caught out between Anchorite Rock and Channel Island, which is where we have been fishing. We have been fishing an area where it's just a few meters shallower than the surrounding area and it has been holding good size fish. We found this spot using Eric Morman's "Secrets of the Hauraki Gulf" CD.

The next few months look to be fantastic fishing in the deeper water for snapper. If you want to catch a trophy size snapper now is the time to do so. It takes a bit more looking and a bit more hunting, but is often well rewarded.

As you know, Wave dancer doesn't mind doing the miles to get the smiles. We are fishing the outer reaches of the Gulf every time the weather permits. Autumn often means light winds, and we have already had quite a few crystal clear glassy calm days.

It should be noted that a number of our regular clients have their own boats, however come out on Wave Dancer to learn new techniques, (as well as discovering it is more cost effective than using their own boats, especially after the recent fuel increases). We specialize in deepwater soft baiting, and we are always willing to teach techniques of fishing and methods we use to find fish.

The Hutchwilco Boat Show is on May 12-15 and Wave Dancer will be there in force.
