Fishing Report - Double Rum January 2011

The fishing  at Great Barrier Island has been exceptionally good recently. There are some large schools of skipjack Tuna at the northern end of the Barrier and some very large Albacore and small yellowfin tuna amongst them. There are certainly not as many yellowfin around as there used to be and it's sad that they have almost been hunted to extinction in the Pacific.

We have caught large Hapuka and some good sized and very healthy kingfish with many medium sized snapper as well..

We have a Hapuka trip planned - departing Gulf Harbour Marina at 5.30am on Saturday the 19th February.Returning at 8pm +/- the same day. Cost is $250.00 per person for a magic day out past the Barrier and we'll troll for some fresh baits for the Hapuka on the way out which is also a bit of fun. Trip requires a minimum of 8people to go ahead and is weather dependant.
