Whangaroa Report

Looks like another good weekend coming up weather wise ,the fishing has been a bit patchy but we have been catching some good tarakihi close in ,30m off Taupo Bay and also off Flat Island towards The Cavallis

The snapper are around but havent really come on the bite yet, picked up a couple of nice pannies amongst the tarakihi along with a lot of small ones. There have been some good snapper (5kg) caught out in 60 to 70m drift fishing. There are kings around ,a lot of rats and a few big ones amongst them and these fish can be found at most depths on foul. Jigs and live bait are the way to go and john dory as a nice bycatch when using live baits is a bit of a bonus.

Hapuku and blue nose are still fishing quite well,it pays to pull some small lures as there are skip jack tuna around from 80m out to 300m.Water colour is quite good and temp up to 16deg the other day, before you know it the game fish will be in,good fishing
