Monster Spring Kingfish on the Coromandel

Hi Everyone!

If I had to choose one month to go fishing for kingfish on the Coromandel it would be October.  It is a pretty popular month for us with regulars coming back to chase THAT fish.

We're only one week into October now but it has all the hallmarks of being one of the best ever, the fishing over the last week has been nothing short of exceptional.

Big spring kingfish are in mating mode and when they hit they are ANGRY!  We've seen snapped rods, spooled reels and plenty of epic fights and huge kingfish hitting the decks.  Many of the big kingfish are scarred from pretty vigorous mating.

At the start of this week I had four Australians on board, all of whom had only ever landed 65cm kingfish before back in Sydney.  By the end of the first day they had all cracked 20kg.  Legs were given in as they were trying to hold up their kingis!  Yesterday one of the lucky anglers cracked 30kgs, with a 1.38m kingfish from a triple hook up of BIG fish!   It was all too much and a lay day was called for today for the boys to recuperate and we have two more days lined up later this week for them to go tangle with some more Coromandel monsters.   Tobez has another group from Oz fishing on Sanity this week and they've been slaying some awesome fish at the Aldies as well.  Stay tuned for some pics from this trip on the F Net forum or our website later this week.

Last week was something special for us with 12 anglers joining us from around the globe, fishing for the week about Sanity and Epic.  We mixed the fishing up between the Mercury Pins where Tobes had a blinder with the best day a 61 kingfish day to 26kg.  Tobez has this fishery at the Mercs wired and spring should see some pretty special fishing there as the fish are starting to bust the surface. The Mercury Bay was also holding some kingfish over the sand which made for some pretty special fishing for the boys on light tackle.

Down at the Aldies on Epic we weren't getting the same numbers but the average fish size some days was around 20kg and 30kg the biggest.  For the full report check out the report on our site here

With spring hitting its straps everything is on the bite and awesome puka and snapper fishing abounds as well, but that promise of a king over the 30kg mark, well its just too hard to drive away from....

With more big kings, surface action and kingi carnage likely over Nov and Dec, if you are keen to book some dates in for our last few spots of the year, check our calendar here

Tight lines
