Fishing Reports

The Fishing is Red Hot Again.

I have had some days fishing out of Port Vila on Shogun that have turned on the sort of fishing that Vanuatu is famous for. The earlier part of the month was very hit and miss however operators have been turning up great fishing and a marlin most days in the last week of the month. The wahoo and mahi-mahi have also been thick and fast. Huge schools of flying fish have been turning up everywhere and there has been plenty of mahi-mahi working them. Just find the birds and we have been getting a mahi-mahi bite.

The F.A.D has been a little on the quite side however the fishing has been very good straight out of Vila so the conditions have been ideal for people just doing half or one day charters. One such day on V-Factor saw them with a couple of wahoo, a mahi-mahi , tagged a short biller spear fish which have been in abundance and had 4 marlin climb on then fall off.

Similar days have been reported by the crews of Nevergiveup and Reel Capture. The marlin we have been seeing have been from 100kg to 300+kg. Charles Wheeler reported a couple of striped marlin and a black off Eton Reef however he was suffering with the dropsy’s and came home with no score. It’s just great to see the fishing back as we know it and we are looking forward to it continuing.
