Hi All
It may supposedly be the dead of winter but the fishing right now is nothing short of superb.

Through early July there were still plenty of kingfish in the shallows around the bait schools. For more on that check one of Tobes reports from early July here.
However over the last two weeks the inshore kingfish have now thinned out, and so the deep reefs and pins from Cuvier to the Aldies and Mayor are where it is at on the kingi front. We recently did a three day trip fishing the extent of the Eastern Coromandel and pulled awesome solid 20kg kingfish from all three locations. Check that report out here
Water temps are three degrees higher at the moment than this time last year and with plenty of bait showing the kingis are feasting up and in good condition.
While livebaits are probably still delivering the fish of the day on a consistent basis, the jigging has been going well. Over the last week we've predominatly been jigging, with most trips being all people after their first ever kingfish. One of those was 14 year old Travis Clark pictured here, visiting with Ozzie TV Show Mark Bergs Fishing Addiction. They pulled some really solid kings to the 20kg mark.
For more from the last week and a long run of people losing their kingfish virginity, check out more pics here
Hot jigs are the River to Sea spike jig - still!, JM Rocket and YeeHaa pencil jig.
A full tank of livebaits will also put you in good stead for a great days fishing.

You can't beat this time of year for snapper. Most of the snaps are up in the shallows, spread out around the kelp beds and feasting up large to put on condition.
Pictured here is a nice 7kg fish taken from Red Merc by father and son team Tim and Ben aboard Sanity. More pics from that day can be found here
Find a good shallow spot on the foul with plenty of current, burley hard and a limit bin of 1-2kg fish is yours for the taking. This is prime time for working the shallows with softbaits as well, as the fish are spread out, working the coastline and islands will deliver a better line of above average fish.
We've had good success around the Mercs and Aldies, but also the coastline and inner islands like Centre off Whitianga and Penguin and Rabbit off Tairua holding some good fish too,.
So, get out and get amongst the action.
If you want to nab a spot on either of our boats over the next few weeks check out our availability page and get in touch
