Fishing Reports

The Store report for June22-26

Good Morning, its fantastic, the rivers are almost perfect the sun is shinning there is a little cool breeze and you should be fishing.

We endured some very heavy rainfall over the latter part of the weekend which at times meant that fishing was challenging or impractical. We certainly have had again some real volume that has affected the Kaimanawa and the Waipakahi catchment. We got just under 3 inches over a 24 hour period and the ground and rivers have reflected that.

Monday proved to be dull and overcast with skiffy rain that wasn't of any significance and the rivers as a result have dropped steadily and will continue to provide some fantastic fishing over the next few days.

Anglers that have fished recently have had some very productive fishing and there are some really good and well conditioned fish that are popping up right throughout the fishery. There are certainly some fish that are smallish and those that naturally are of dubious condition but that's what makes a fishery and keeps us coming back. Generally though the fishery and the feeling of anglers is that the season is going to be a great one and consistent. Fish are not here any earlier it would seem but we have had the conditions that has allowed them to move unimpeded and once that pattern emerges it often continues right throughout a season. It looks as if we are going to have this sort of pattern this winter, rain over a number of days then a turn to the south, allowing the rivers to drop, fish moving and anglers able to take advantage of the conditions.

The fact that we have such a lot of water that we are able to fish too makes it a little easier on the anglers too with the Hine, the upper section available to fish to the Cliff means that we have now a huge amount of water available to fish too and that is a real bonus.

Both nymphing and the wet line have been as good as each other as anglers enjoy their particular style, the heavier water engaging the wet fly and as the levels drop the nymph.

River mouths have continued to fish well when its been a little windy as fish are holding at the mouths before moving, The lake level is higher as we would expect after the amount of rain that has fallen over the past 10 days, meaning that the rips have become a little less defined.
