Fishing Reports

Otago fishing

Hello, down south the weather is the usual winter combination of wind and rain with a few calm days between.

There has been some very good big blue cod out from Moreaki and Shag point. The sea trout fishing in the lower rivers has been quiet because of flooding but hopefully soon they will be showing as the first whitebait arrive.

The Otago salmon anglers association is about to release more salmon smolt into the harbour and we are hopeful of a good return in 2 to 3 years of grown salmon.

Trout in the open dams and lakes are thinking about  spawning and any fly or lure with orange and red is working well currently.
