Fishing Reports

The Store Report for march 10-17

Good morning fantastic weather and great fishing conditions at present, with a little bit of morning cloud most days and cooler mornings and nights but generally the weather has been fantastic and we have had little other than a whisper of a breeze on the lakes.

We do need some rainfall to give the rivers, which are low and very clear as I write this. The longer range forecast does indicate that we are going to get a sprinkle but as is often the case we seem to get a sprinkle and that is all. The lower lake level is significant now, and a bit of a worry this early, but we understand that that is a result of the fixing of the Cook Strait cable which means that we are generating most of the power in the north island at present. The rain when it comes will be welcome.

Despite the rivers being low and clearer, the fishing if you’re prepared to fish to the conditions has not been too bad with still dry, wet and nymphing holding out and there are still reasonable number of fish right throughout the fishery.

River mouths have started to fish a little better too with the cooler temperatures beginning to encourage fish in. Few anglers taking advantage of the mouths but a few boats beginning to appear at the T/t over recent days which is a telling sign!

Back country has continued to fish well with little in the way of pressure at all, lots of water and good numbers of fish, some very nice brownies.

Lake fishing fish are still deeper but still there to be caught, the lake temperatures are still quite high for this time of the year, and having had little in the way of wind has been great.
Lake O still producing some great fishing but with a little less pressure as the season eases and the summer starts to wind down.

Feel free to give us a call for an update or accommodation anytime,
