Great last few days up here in Whangaroa.
Hapuku on the bite out in the 200m area, a few workups of fish and dolphins in the same area. Water is still cool but slowly warming. No takers on the lures except for rat kings closer in.
The tarakihi are still in the shallower water ~30m ,but once the water temperature rises they will move out and the snapper will move in, and this is already starting to happen. Snapper sizes are increasing every trip we go out.
Some good john dory have been taken in these same areas, and one lucky angler caught small hapuku when we were fishing for tarakihi in 28m off Taupo Bay.
Still some kings around so it pays to run live baits even in the shallow, but go easy on the berly as the 'couda are around
