Over the last week the conditions have been perfect - oily flat seas between Kawau and Little Barrier with a small sea breeze rising up about 3pm each day.
We have been drifting in the 50 mtr mark. Female fish have been coming up full of eggs and are in great condition . The males are out on the sand chasing them. Generally around 8 males to 1 female fish landed so far.
Fishing is not frantic but there are fish there.
Barracuda are out more than before. No matter where we go we are being hit. No penguins anywhere - they must all be dead!
We also have had some exciting fishing anchored up south of Flat Rock with an incoming tide - not big fish but real nice pannies. Plenty of nice blue cod being caught.
One major concern is the amount of Man of War jelly fish. These critters are up to 1/2 a meter in diameter with tentacles trailing some 10 mtrs in length . There is not just one or two but hundreds out there. We have had some of our passengers get numb thumbs due to nylon line coming up through the tentacles . Vinegar on the thumb gets the circulation back pretty quick.
