Fishing ReportsTaupo Fishing Report 5/10/00A double dose of particularly bad school holiday weather has seriously affected angling opportunities this past week. All of the Taupo rivers have been flooded and in the case of the Waimarino, Waiotaka and Tauranga-Taupo, flood water has been running across State Highway One in several places. Given the weather predictions and current state of all Taupo rivers it is unlikely that they will be fishable until after the weekend.
Some fishing has been had on Lakes Otamangakau and Rotoaira this week but strong winds have also made this difficult. A few hardy anglers have fished the inlet canal to Lake Otamangakau which for the latter part of the week was fishable, although a little discoloured.
Other fly fishing opportunities exist at the stream mouths on the Waikato river at Deep Creek and Pueto.
Out on the Lake, boat fishing has been limited to Rangatira Pt through to the Taupo Boat Harbour because of the strong winds experienced during the week. There has been some harling during the early morning period but most fish have been caught fishing deeper on leadline rigs or downriggers set to about 30 meters. Best lure colours are Orange and Gold, Yellow and White and the Traffic Light.
