Epic Adventures - June Charter Report

Hey All

It's now officially winter and it has sure felt like it over the last few weeks, but that hasn't stopped clients on our fishing charters recently getting on to some solid action with the kingfish, snapper and puka out of Tairua.

IN CLOSE

Up until last week there has been some awesome action in close to Tairua with a few of the close reefs holding some big balls of bait with dozens of 15kg-20kg kingis circling and pouncing on any livies that were drifted through the action, and we're talking within 500m of the coastline.

It certainly helped having some of that sort of action around when the wind was piping offshore recently.

The snapper fishing right in close has been hard work though, and generally you've had to travel a way to get in to some good action on the reddies.

OUT WIDE/THE ALDIES

Further out is another story and there have been some solid snapper around, taking jigs, livies, softbaits, flashers, you name it.

Around the Sugarloaf Rocks is a good starting point or the islands themselves.

There has been a longliner situated around the Sugarloafs for the last week in 60-80m working it solidly and from what we have seen pulling a long line of snapper each set so that is a pretty good sign as to where the fish are!

Puka are starting to show up round the 100m mark and the lunker at the top of this report was caught on one of the new Inchiku jigs from Action Imports - demolished on it's first ever drop!

With a lot of bait in close the kingis were a little off and on out wide but that seems to have all changed over the last week.

Just check our photo gallery from last week and you will get the story!

Hot jigs have been anything pink, especially the Katch1 spears, Benthos and Zest curved sliders, as well as the big blue King jig.  Before that, and while the fishing was a little slower, the YeeHaa pencil jig was the go to jig to spark the fish into action.

One kingi that went to the smoker recently had six big jack mackeral in him, so they've been feasting up large and a full tank of livies will put you in good stead as well.

This kingi opposite is a good example of one which has been feasting up large lately, it's got the proportions of a yellowfin - a big barrel that is for sure!!!

VANUATU TRIP

From 25 July - 1 August we're off on our annual Epic Adventure to Vanuatu once again and we'll be taking in some sunshine and hopefully having our arms stretched on some big doggies on jigs, GT's on poppers and those big Blue Marlin that Vanuatu is well known for.   Thirty degrees is certainly going to be a shock to the system after some of the weather we've had lately!

If you've liked the sound of some of the action in this report, you know what to do!  Get in touch and we'll get you amongst it!!
