Fishing Reports

Easter weekend 2009

Easter 2009

Several recent trips were hard fishing. While we certainly managed to get a few fish for dinner for our guests, the full moon made snapper fishing difficult. It was hard work and we put in long hours for small rewards.

Caught enough fish off Tiri ,outside the cables but just found it difficult for snapper further out.

During the weekend plenty of skipjack tuna were landed and some big Kahawaii - the ocean going variety so  everyone on board had a lot of fun. We also caught numerous big blue cod.

Conditions out towards the Barrier were excellent for dragging around lures and that resulted in a good and steady supply of skippies. Again, it was a nice time but the snapper catch was below average.

The fishing moon cycles improve over the next few days.

There are lots and lots of Mako sharks around at present. We got pack eaten recently when half a dozen sharks attacked our ledgers off Kauwau during one afternoon. Normally this is good fun but on this trip I was suppling all the rods & tackle!  Plenty of Mako aerobatics wakes everyone up in a hurry.

Geat weather conditions, lets hope the weather improves over the coming week.
