Fishing Reports

Waitakere West Coast

Well as March comes to a close, the days shorten and the water loses that summer blue, many of you are I am sure are packing away your game gear and starting to ponder the roar. How do I avoid all those idiots in the bush who will shoot at anything that moves you ask, well you could go fishing instead.

Yes the water is not what it was and yes parts of your body travel North when you roll the boat off the trailer at the ramp but the Marlin are still there and although the  number of boats has dropped off the keen ones are still catching them over the bar.

That brillant blue water has faded to a sort of Autumn green but the fish don't care. Temperatures are down around the 20o mark but that hasn't really dropped in the last week so all is not lost.

There are still good patches of skippies out at the 100m area with stripies ripping them up. Some boats on finding them are getting multiple strikes and hookups in a days fishing. What's there  to complain about?

Add to this some serious albies up to 20kg were taken over the weekend. And if you believe the rumours which I often do Mahimahi were caught around a longline bouy that had only been in the water a matter of hours.

So there is still plenty happening out there don't put the gear away yet but get out on the water one more time...... you never know.
