Fishing Reports

17th March 2009

We have been hit hard by the weather that has come through recently. We've experienced some pretty cold wild and rough days over the last 3 weeks.

We like to fish out in the middle zone so keeping our guests lines in contact with the bottom has been a challenge.

The fishing has been steady, but not booming. The areas we have been fishing is out wide on the 50 mtr mark drifting over schools of snapper between Tiri and Coromandel.  Lots of fish in the 8 to10lb range which are superb eating fish, but nothing over that size.

Lots of Kahawai have been landed and plenty of skippies off Tiri Tiri trolling on blue / silver lures. This has given us some serius fun but it takes hours to clean up afterwards due to the amount of blood these things produce.

I am hearing that the shallows / Motihue channel area is working well. We tried it a few times but so many little fish are around, we still prefer to go out wide .

We are seeing dolphins, hammerheads, and some nice snapper most days.

If you can get out deep , try it.
