Fishing Reports

January 2009

Where did January go, The great weather made for some excellent fishing and lots of really happy people on our boat.

An 18 lb snapper was the biggest snapper landed in January close to the Whangaparapara / Great Barrier area. Great work Garry & Russell.

Several nice kingswere caught, with lots of Gurnard and most trips resulted in good catches of Snapper.

My first trip as crew was on January the 31st. Thank you Watts and Hughes construction for making the day so great. We had a full load and basically by 11am had enough Snapper to move out to deeper water,so we went for Kingis at Anchorite. We hit a few but did not land any, which was a pity. We then motored towards Little Barrier where we finished the day hooking up real big Kahawai in huge schools on 6kg light gear. What huge fun in the big swells.

We also landed and released a nice Mako shark. Well done to the angler who did that. We wondered why we were getting busted off.

There are fish deep out on the sand at 50 mtrs or in 3 mtrs up towards Greenhithe. Plenty of snapper in the Upper Harbour area in the mud or under the bungi on the Harbour Bridge.
