Location & Conditions
Depated Gulf Harbour Marina at 8.15am.A 5 knot variable northerly wind .Picture perfect day.
Baits , Methods & results
Lots of burley into the current. Used large size 10 red gama hooks directly onto the mainline plus big blue / white flashers made by Andy at Silverdale Bait & Tackle. The fishing was steady all day with big fish on the out going tide. Small sharks caught with larger threshers and makos lost at the boat as they jumped and escaped. We had plenty of big snapper, 14 - 16 lbs. All went home with lots of fish. The big 20 lb plus snapper we took photos of and handled it gently and let it back into the ocean to breed for further seasons. We kept the 10kg, 1.3 meter kingfish. This was the first kingi landed this season . I unfortunately later dropped a much larger one close to the boat as tangled up in 5 lines. I retired from fishing after that.
Location & Conditions
Departed Gulf Harbour at 7.30am.Murray and his team were pumped up and ready to go. Conditions were 25 knot south west winds, dying out to zero by 10.30am. Went to Kawau, anchored south of Challenger Island and caught on to a sunken trawler fishing net with my anchor. The whole team onboard helped to free us, thank you guys. We will dive on this net over the next few weeks. I am sure there will be a lot of anchors and chain down there .
Baits, methods & Results
This day started badly and unfortunately we did not get the fish to play to our tune. We saw large sharks and had our live bait hammered by Threshers. The snapper were small and hard to hook. Lots of Kahawai in the burley trail, no real major action.A hard day for us. We stayed out longer trying to get the afternoon magic hour. We used all the burley and all the bait and got poor results unfortunately.
