Double Rum Diary

3rd December

Location & Conditions:
Perfect conditions. South of Kawau

Baits, methods and results
Drifting in the current line with baits and softbaits - average results
We anchored , berlied up in the incoming current line - wind and tide were in sync and caught gurnard, slimy mackrel, nice snapper, kahawai and trevally

Notes
We encourage all visitors on our boat to bring along chilly bins. We supply all the salt ice for the trips as it's important to keep the fish chilled down on hot days as fish get poached within half an hour or so and are in no condition to eat.

4th December

Location & Conditions:
Headed north of Waiheke. towards Coromandel. The Motihue channel showed no signs, no birds, no life on the way through.

Baits, methods and results
9 miles off the Durville Rocks direction, towards Coromandel, no sign of fish on the fish finder, no surfacr activity. We drifted , caught 2 snapper in 2 hours.

Headed back to Kawau Island, once past Tiri the fish finder filled up with signs of life. Big snapper - 50 - 60cm in length, gurnard, trevally and Kahawai.

Notes
Appears that there's better fishing up north, and Rakino, Waiheke, Rangitoto area is still to fire .The action is intense south of Kawau.
