Fishing Reports

Double Rum Friday 17th October 2008

Our most recent trip was on Friday 17/10 at 1pm for an afternoon drop. With 13 people on board, we tried outside the cables between Tiri Tiri and Little Barrier. We saw some whales briefly,  but no real bird action, however our biggest problem was we could not keep our lines on the bottom. Just too much drift  - the 25 knot south west winds were making things awkward . The water is warming up and we're starting to see a little bit of red algae around.

Went to Maori Rock and Fairchilds Reef and had some big break off's on 80lb trace line and braid. These were clean breaks with nothing landed and I presume Bull sharks are aound. We caught quite a few small snapper which went back. Lots of small kawai around the Maori Rock area .

Between the wind, the rain , the sea conditions and the lack of good quality fish I am amazed I love this job.

Fished the Tiri Tiri channel at magic hour, not one decent bite until dusk. The fish are not playing the game we want yet.

We will try in the inner Hauraki Gulf this week on the worm beds ....sounds like they're just starting to fire..

Will keep you posted.
