Fishing Reports

We've just had a great day out on the west coast catching tarakihi, bluecod and groper (fathers day).

The Sounds trip was a blast last weekend, it was out 1st 24hr trip over for a while and apart from the danger of hitting logs after dark on the way it all went well.

The boys caught a heap of tarakihi, limit bluecod and scallops, tried for puka but missed out on that one. The previous 2 days we caught 6 and 7 puka respectively on the west coast up to about 20lbs. The Makara fenceline has been going well for teris and the harbour has been producing snapper to 8kgs over the last 2 weeks - try the Falcon shaol or Scorching Bay Point.
 
The trench was quite on sunday apart from a 25lb bass and hoki, but we plan to give it another nudge this thursday and friday when the water is not so dirty. the previous w/end produced plenty of puka and bluenose and a few bass.
 
Surfcasters have been doing it tough with a few spotty sharks over the wairarapa, plenty of redcod and some nice kahawai around the harbour and sth coast. 
 
2 good reports have just come to hand -  a couple of 7 to 8kg snapper caught in Evans Bay and off Karaka bay and last week and a number of kingfish jigged on the north end of Kapiti (a bit deeper than normal)
 
The bluefin tuna have been good down off westport with some boats hooking 10 fish, 200kg plus in a 24hr trip. they have been landing about half of them and tagging most of them. the fish have been on average bigger than last year.   

Pete's microwave mornay (feeds 4) 

25 scallops
cup of flour
200gm butter
squirt of soy sauce, seafood coctail sauce, lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
100gm cheese
1/2 cup of white wine
 
Shuck the scollies, mix the flour with small amount of milk and add a bit of milk every now and then finished, add it to the scollies. Chuck the rest in the bowl and cook it on 'full' for about 10 minutes all up, stiring it every 2 minutes.   
 
I invented this recipe on Monday and it worked well (without the wine and cheese). you can use other spices or nothing at all and it is still good
