Fishing Reports

The Store Report for June 27-30

The rivers are all full as I write this report but they are dropping relatively quickly due to the still lower lake level. I presume that the water that has been fed into Lake Taupo is being sieved off and is filling the dams lower down the Waikato as we speak.

The rain that fell last night was heavy and hard and all the rivers tonight including the Tongariro have volume, though naturally the Tongariro will drop away a great deal quicker and some anglers have fished the lower section of the big river this afternoon with a wet line. Not hoards of fish but ones and twos, mostly fish that probably have been washed downstream.

My feeling is that we won't get too much in the way of rain over the next few days. This will allow the rivers to drop, clear a little and settle allowing the fish and the angler a fighting chance.

Some anglers this week have found it really hard to get onto fish, but one would expect with the 2-3 fronts, plus the fact that the rivers have dropped and then risen dramatically, fishing will be variable.

Lets hope that the fish decide to make their move over the next few days as the angler has volume and colour to give them the advantage for a change.

River mouths will be a little blustery but fishing inside the mouths will be a good option.
