At this time of the year everythings firing on all cylinders. the marlin up north are going off. A 442kg blue marlin was caught in the B.O.P in a 6mtr boat last week. striped marlin and yellowfin are in good numbers too around the upper and middle north island. Right now the marlin are abundant off the taranaki coast, even sth of taranaki, so its worth trolling a few lures up north of kapiti RIGHT NOW. The water temp is back up to 18 degrees plus on the west and 16ish on the south.
Last Saturday we bagged 7 nice snapper, 3 kingfish, some teris and a large cray all within 2 hours in 40mtrs at Pukerua bay. The next day the puka really fired at fishermans rock, There was an earthquake monday morning which put the puka off the bite for a day or two but they shoulod be back on the bite again.
We are seeing some fish up over 50lb now. The southerly swells on the south and east coast have shut things down there but we got our hook a huge on comp away just in time. saturdays forcast was not good and we cancelled both charter boats, but the actual day wasnt too bad in the harbour and south coast. the other side of the trench is worth a bash now especially for big bluenose, karori and palliser bay 100mtr marks are worth while for puka and trumpeter.
We were at the makara fenceline the other day filling the bin with good teris and some cod and kahawai when two livebait rigs smoked off with huge kingis on. one snapped off under the boat and the other snapped off after tangleing in another line but these were big fish in the 50lb plus bracket.

We had about 20 people entered with 2 boats fishing on the sth coast in swelly conditions but not much wind. one boat fished the harbour and we had about 8 people fishing off the shore. the west coast was pretty uncomfortable in the morning but quite fishable in the afternoon/evening. the blue cod should be leading the nationwide comp for $2000 in prize money. Don't forget to get your entries in for the best 'yarn' on The Fishing Website. it might earn you $500.
Jade Lamb from houghton valley school with her spotties and small kahawai caught at the evans bay boat ramp. she was amazed at the big cloud of spotties milling around her bait. While 'despatching' them unfortunatly she cut her finger with dads pocket knife. determined not to cry she told dad the spotty spiked her. a couple of plasters and a chocolate nut bar sorted things out!
