Fishing ReportsGreat Winter Fishing in TairuaHowdy All Well the weather has been a bit on the average side lately, but it hasn't kept the fish at bay - in fact we've had some sensational fishing over the last two weeks. Sunday saw us out in blustery offshore winds, but working an area of water in 8m in close to Sailors (or Te Karo Bay) where gannets had been working all week we picked up a nice 14kg kingi on a live slimey. Where there are baitfish getting hammered by kahawai and kingi's there will always be snapper there cleaning up the leftovers, and sure enough a few drifts through the same patch of water produced a nice line of snapper in the 5-10 pound range, all on GULP softbaits. SNAPPER Anywhere from Boat Harbour to Whangamata you will find good snapper from 15m in. The fish are a bit cagey and baits aren't firing that well. Softbait is another story altogether and are producing some great fishing and quality sized fish. Check out some photos from the trip at: http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=22411 KINGFISH Well winter is a great time to get into kingfish. In close, out wide - they are there! It is worth making sure you always have a livey out. OUTLOOK The days seem to be getting longer now and there seem to be more nice days in the mix. With the fishing this good, it is the perfect time to get on the water and into some great kingi and snapper action. Get in touch on info@epicadventures.co.nz if you are keen to get out for a fish!
