Fishing ReportsWinter Fishing at it's Best.14/7/07It was blowing 30 + knots, but the team was keen to get out there to see if the recent storm had affected the fish. We anchored in 23 metres on the north side of Motuora Island in about a 1/2 mtr slop. The berley had hardly been set when the first snapper came aboard. For two hours, the fishing was steady. Heaps of throw backs but some very nice pannies around the 1 - 2 kg mark. It's good to see a few Kahawai coming on board also. Gurnard are also plentiful around this area with several average size fish being caught. This area fishes best on incoming tide with a bit of current. Prefered bait was pillie but squid was working also, although it seemed to attract the smaller fish probably due to the fact that it stays on the hook better so enables the nibblers a chance at a feed. All in all a great days fishing with 40 + snapper in two hours.
