Fishing Reports

The Best Western Braeside Resort Rotorua Report.

Great winter fishing all around the Region!

The spawning season is in full swing and stream and shore line Fly fishing are both producing good results.

The Ngongotaha stream is fishing well but at times hard. My friend Harley tells me, lots of fish sitting in deeper pools but not interrested in anything he had to offer.

A fluorocarbon leader in combination with a weighted nymph seems to work well at present.

Our typical winter fishing spots are working well, the recent frosts and the drop in temperature have affected the catch rates with both wild and hatchery fish over 4 kg being cought.

Ruato Bay, The Dump, Hauparu Bay and the Pipe all on lake Rotoiti are experiencing heavy angling and it pays to get there early.

For our boat anglers, dont forget Lake Rotoiti, Tarawera and Okataina are closing on June 30th and will open again on October 1st.

Lake Rotorua is fishing well as always, off the Airport, the Ohau Channel end, Ngongotaha lake side and Mokoia Island are all holding good conditioned fish.

Two dates to remember for our young fishers:

Sunday 8th July and Sunday 12th August are children`s fishing days At the Ngongotaha Trout Harchery

Children aged 6-14 years can learn to fly fish and catch a rainbow trout. This is a great opportunity for kids.

Fishing times are 9am - 12 noon

1pm -3 pm

Children are provided with, fishing tackle, safety glasses and a plastic bag to take the catch home.
