Fishing Reports

4 days- 350 fish

Fine weather, light breezes and over 350 fish for the 4 day holiday period. The snapper were hard out on the bite especially around moonset which was basically the middle of the day. After spending a relatively slow day out around Little Barrier on friday we opted to change locations and fish the Colville area. It payed off big time with 3 hard out days on the drift and bag limits, personal bests and with a variety of tackle and techniques used so alot of fun too.

Soft plastics featured especially the Gulp range and in particular the saphire shines, lime tigers and the old fave - nuke chook being the ones the fish seemed to jump on. Flasher rigs and ledger rigs were the best though and even the hard core strayliners had to change to get the results. Jigs worked too - in fact they were jumping on just about everything except big baits.

From around Tiri, reports were mixed with alot of small fish being hooked from in the channel and a few bigger ones coming from behind the island. Reports from Little Barrier were patchy with some doing well and others missing out. Similar reports from Great Barrier too with the best fish coming from The Neddles' deeper areas or from in close around the change of light.

Heres a few dates that have become available for casuals:
