Fishing Reports

Bay of Islands 8/3/07

Well the fishing up here in the Bay just keeps soldiering on and being as good as it has ever been for a number of years. Over the past couple of weeks the fish have started to spread out and become less concentrated in areas but the boats that have been johny on the spot have been rewarded with multiple hook ups and captures. There has had to be a lot more searching when fishing than just targeting a certain area or structure but there has been relatively consistant results comming from the Queen's Buoy area.

There has also been a good run of Blue marlin that have moved into the Bay with a number of people reporting encounters. Most of these have been in the Nine Pin trench area. One such capture was the winning fish for the Riviera Tournament on board the boat The Godfather. This fish went 354.2kg and is a potential New Zealand woman's record.  There are some good fish out there so keep your wits about you and just hope you can survive when that big girl jumps on.

The lures that have been fishing consistantly at the moment are still the fruit salad combinations and the purple and blacks. Along with the angry squid combinations which are starting to fish well also. Well thats it from me up in the Bay. Good luck when you venture out again and if you need to know what is going on up in the Bay please get in touch.
