Fishing ReportsBay Of Islands 13/2/07This season has certainly been one of consistancy for the Bay so far. With the slow start we had early on things have gone full circle and the fishing has been exceptionally good. Alot of anglers are saying that the numbers of striped marlin this year in the Bay is equivalent to the numbers so frequently seen on the west coast. So the last couple of weeks have produced plenty of captures for anglers venturing out wide. The majority of the fish have been striped marlin but the odd Blue has been thrown in the mix to keep everyone on their toes. The charter boat Major Tom II tagged an estimated 250kg Blue Marlin on 24kg line. That is a great effort! Now there has been no hot spot at the moment with fish being taken right into 90 meters but the inside Nine Pin Trench has been producing alot of action for boats with a number multiple hook ups being reported over the weekend but alot of dropped fish to go along with it. Even the reliable pitching of a live bait has been refused or just grabbed and spat out again. So it has been a frustrating time but at least the anglers are seeing plenty of action. It is only a matter of time before the fish start biting properly. On the lure front. There has been a couple of colours that have been producing pretty well. The angry squid or poo brown colour and blue over pink combinations have both been getting their fair share of the action at the moment. The old faithfuls like the lumo and purple and black are still hanging in there too. Well thats it from up here in the Bay. I hope you get out and enjoy some of the fantastic action we are having up this way. Good luck and be safe. Catch'em Up! From
