Fishing Reports

Bay of Islands - 'Major Tom II'

Everything is now running hot in the Bay with marlin showing up in good numbers, and plenty of other fishing options as well.

Marlin action at the weekend was off Whangamumu, but the patch seems to have moved up to the area around Main Rock and Queens Buoy.

Major Tom , fishing with a Scottish client, pulled three stripeys from the area around the Nine Pin trench yesterday.

Plenty of skippies and small albacore are feeding close inshore, and have even been taken by boats towing rapalas around the best inshore kingfish haunts.

Kingfishing seems to have improved with barracoutta moving out deep with the warmer waters, though no really big fish are being caught.

Snapper are plentiful, but a bit patchy. Best area is west from Whale Rock, along the 50M line, fishing both ledger rigs and squid.

As always drop me an email at MAJOR.TOM@xtra.co.nz if we can be of any help
