Fishing ReportsBay Of Islands 22/1/07Well with a slow start to the gamefishing season in the Bay with just the odd yellowfin around and the odd marlin. Things have really heated up over the last couple of days. In the past 3 days alone 15 marlin have been reported either tagged and released or landed. These have all been striped marlin but I know of a couple of blue marlin landed in the same area that were reported for other clubs. All the action has been in a warm body of water east of Cape Brett in around the 200m mark through to the 300m mark off Whangamumu. Most boats that have been heading out have been reporting marlin action of some sort during the days fishing. A couple of boats have been fishing extremely well with skipper Mark Noakes onboard the vessel the Independce having a great weekend tagging 3 striped marlin and having a few other bites. Also the crew of the vessel Black Beard having the same results tagging 3 stripped marlin over the weekend. So good on you guys! Most of the fish taken have been on lures and it is hard to pin point a colour that is working better than any other at the moment with fish being taken on an array of coloured lures and sizes but purple and black has been producing it's fair share of fish. I do know of a couple of fish that have been raised to the lures which have proven extremely finicky but have fallen victim to a rigged live bait that has been run back to them. So full that live bait tank up with a couple of live baits before you leave the harbour. It could just be what the doctor ordered. Well thats it for the report up here in the Bay. Hopefully this is the start to another cracking game fishing season. Good luck out there. Catchem Up Bonze From
