The hapuku fishing has been superb with fish up to 60lb caught recently, more so on the west coast. The trench has been a bit tougher fishing but a good vafriety of bass, bluenose, puka, ling, gemfish, frostfish and hoki have been caught. For inshore fishing the blue cod and tarakhi have been good off island bay, owhiro bay and in the harbour off falcons shoal. on 13/12 we caught 5 snapper at the makara fenceline to about 3kgs . the water has warmed up with plenty of kingfish reported at the kapiti boulder bank and a few at hunters. A 3.6kg moki caught on our evening moki trip dec 19th, we hooked a few more but they were too big and got away Surfcasters are having good moki catches on the sth coast and spotty sharks almost everywhere. the kahawai have been in short supply but a few snapper in evans bay have made it worth while going out. 22 Dec: The puka have been great in 150 - 200mtrs on the west coast. pukerua bay has been firing some snapper and a 50lb plus kingi was caught at verns recently. the trench has been a bit quite for numbers of puka and bluenose but good variety to make up for it.
