Eastern Bay - Trip shortages

Just a quickie to say hi and let you know “PURSUIT” and her crew are back on the water after some holiday time and maintenance.

I’ve been in Kona, Hawaii visiting my son Kydd, very enjoyable.  Then Lyn and I went to Vanuatu for two weeks spending ten of those days onboard “Striker” with Bruce Smith.  Some think I’m nuts to work all year taking people fishing so we can pay someone to take us fishing!  They’re probably right!!

While the weather and fishing were somewhat disappointing, it was an interesting trip to a special part of the world and we returned home well rested – always a bonus.  Paul spent his time with family in Wales and diving in the Red Sea (Egypt).  He also enjoyed his time away and is firing on all eight cylinders!

“PURSUIT” has undergone its usual “preening”, preparing her for the long season ahead.  Going through all the machinery, new squabs, new pumps and a general tidy up sees the girl pronounced ready for her arduous task.  While we have a few gaps prior to Christmas, we’re basically full until the end of May with already a lot of interest in June/July.  Again it seems as though our fate is sealed.

We’ve now just started the season; already we’ve enjoyed some good fishing at White Island – home sweet home.  Although bottomfishing hasn’t been too exhilarating, the ever popular kingis have more than made up for this shortfall.  Not only are the numbers there but quality is great with many fine fish over 20 kilos with some knocking on 30.  So far the fish of the season is a 31kg beauty landed by longtime Port of Auckland employer Peter Graham.

As it turns out we have two trips next month which are short one person.   Although this isn’t important, both trips originate from Rotorua.  They are both three day excursions destined for Ranfurly Bank.  Here are the dates of said trips:

                   Departure                         Return

Tuesday  October 31st                             Friday 3rd

Tuesday  November  7th                          Friday 10th

If either of these trips strike a favourable note please let us know ASAP and we’ll put you in direct touch with the relevant chartermaster.

Hope you’re set to do some fishing this coming season with an enjoyable long Labour Day weekend ahead.  Looking forward to seeing some of you soon. Will be in touch again via this modem around Christmas.

Until then

Rick & Crew
