Fishing Reports

good weather finally arrives

bluefin tuna
Down westport way there have been half a dozen bluefin from 130 to 250kg's caught out in the hokitika trench on rod and reel lately. the hoki boats have turned up and there are longliners shooting droppers for swords and bluefin. There is a fair bit on interest with quite a few boats from more northern locations going down for a crack.

Closer to home (for us) there have been reports of hoki boats fishing the cook strait canyon over the last week. I wouldn't mind betting there are some bluefin and broadies out there too.
they have been caught there in previous seasons by commercial boats.

Our new charter vessel, 65ft Daniel has completed its survey and we are just waiting for the paperwork to come through.  we are dead keen investigating the cook canyon and the paihou canyon (wairarapa) for big fish potential.  Longliners have taken northerns to 350kg, southerns to 150kg and swords to 450kg in the wairarapa in the previous seasons.
please give me an email or a call to register your interest. we have one or two crews already keen. these will take place in any good weather spells from this w/end onwards.

fishing report

boat
we have had 3 shots at puka in the last 10 days with reasonable success. The trench produced a 30kg bluenose for local fisho mike quillan recently. the tarakihi and blue cod have been good inshore with a few warehou as well. We are itching to give the bluenose and bass a workout in the trench asap.
