Fishing Reports

Winter field day 23/07/06

Due to the weather conditions, fishing spots were limited for the nine members who made it out for a fish. Seven ended up at Castlepoint Reef, and had to fish the "high top" due to the 3 to 4 mtre swells, three waves actually made it to the top.

Even in the dirty water and swells the fish(Red Cod and S/Dogs) were on the bite, and some good sized Cod were winched up. When fishing the high top, members soon found  that light main line didn't cut the mustard here, and had to change gear to suit the conditions.

A shock leader thats on the reel when the fish is in the water at your feet, in this case 35ft ! and a reel with a good drag, so you can crank the fish up is the story.

Two other members fished the coast at Ocean Beach, and ended up with a big Kelpie, and for those two particular members to only catch one fish between them tells me the conditions were bad indeed. Even though the day could have been better, we all enjoyed the experience, and look foreward to the next winter outing.
