OKUMA BRASS MONKEY FISHING COMP
15, 16 July 2006. fishing time 12pm saturday to 12pm sunday

Fishing time 12pm Saturday to 12pm Sunday, area - Otaki to Castlepoint

Thanks very much to okuma, gary kemsley and pete lamb for their sponsorship and envolvement for the inaugrual mid winter competition.

With gale force southerlies and rain on Saturday meant fishing was limited. About 5 or 6 hardy souls fished the shore on saturday afternoon with limited results. Sunday was much better with clear skies and 10 - 15 knots southerlies.

Apart from the 10 allowable species there was an elephantfish, a skate and large ray caught.

For boaties the saturday was cancelled. On sunday four boats went out but only one boat weighed in. The others had a tough morning and decided to stay out for the afternoon, missing the weighin. The boat fishing was hard with a 6am tide and dirty water.

The weigh in and prizegiving was a pleasant affair with a wholesome bbq including sossies, lamb chops and kingfish steaks. Everyone received CD hats, okuma stickers and key rings.

Composite developments (okuma and silstar) donated a $150 graphite surf rod for most points shore and zeon surf reel for 2nd place. Gary Kemsley and Pete lamb donated an Okuma SD boat reel for most points boat and an okuma blue diamond jig rod for heaviest tarakihi. Each other prize winner won $50 cash (from the entry tickets).
