Report from Al the Angler

Howdy fellow fisho's

May is here along with its autumn weather which has brought alot of rain and has washed alot of debris into the sounds.  Due to this fact the last two weeks have proved the best condition wise, with 3-4 fine days amongst the rain.  The freshwater has made visibility poor and the water temp at the mo is between 14-16 degrees.

The snapper are still around, and as elusive as they are, the games just got tougher.  The mussel rafts in the Kenepuru have been the best starting point, and if the snapper are there you'll know pretty quickly.  If not try another one also go deeper or shallower if fishing at night leading up to and on the full moon, midnight-midday has seen us landing only large energentic snapper.

Also sighting large kingfish, a wire trace is a must for the tackle box with energetic barracoutta making a nuisance of themselves.

Humpback pillies (if it has a blowhole its big enough) have been the flavour of the month, along with a combination of mussle and salmon burley, as an attractant.  Always have a bag of squid in the bait bin and on a really slow day trolling has proved some entertainment recently.

On a short and unusual note a rather large sunfish washed up in the Mahakipawa arm of the pelorus sound with photos submited to photo gallery for something different to look at.

Tight lines and wet lures
