Fishing ReportsSnapper back, kingis and puka are bigAfter a few days of gale west to northwesters the water temp is up again and the snapper and kings have been firing again. Best fish of late is a 120lb puka caught off the back of mana by david wyatt with wgtn fishing charters. A 50lb king from hunters by the long gully owner and a 45lb king in the harbour by an angler in an inflatable.
Surfcasters have continued success with plenty of spotty sharks, a few moki and snapper but no kingfish i have heard of. gurnard and kahawai have been in good numbers in the harbour as well as a few elephantfish. inshore boat fishing has been great for tarakihi on the south and wests coasts around the 25mtr depth. Fishermans rock has been good for puka, the brothers has been good for big cod and crays. the snapper have been caught around the bridge, pukerua bay, kapiti, boom and the makara fenceline. heard of fish up to 18lb caught recently. A few nice trevs and gurnard are now showing but the j/ds have gone. A live flying fish landed on the deck out wide from mana the other day and we saw albacore tuna jumping. no captures though.
